You looked at your watch as a sigh left your lips. He had been over an hour late. Today had been your 3 year anniversary. You couldn’t help but smile ever so slightly as you twisted the engagement ring on your left hand. It had almost seemed like a dream. You had met him almost 6 years ago, when you were both sophomores in high school. You had become friends with him shortly after you had met, much to his resentment. No matter how many times he had tried to shake you, no matter how many times he had said and done mean thing to you, you would just smile and forgive him in the end. When he had finally confessed to you and showed you his true self, you just hugged him while whispering words of comfort and understanding.
When he had met Tohru, and confessed his feeling to her, even though it had broken your heart, you had always been there to lend a listening ear. And a year latter when there relationship fell to pieces, you were there to pick up the pieces of his broken heart.
It took some time for his heart to mend, after all his love for Tohru was deep. During that time, you waited patiently for his broken soul to heal. You would hold him as the times were tough, and spoke with tenderness when he had been harsh with you. You looked at your watch again, your eyes softening with sadness.
Sighing, you stood and made your way to the door, the beautiful dress you had been wearing swishing lightly with every move you had made. The clouds had begun to darken, gathering together in what was sure to be a promising storm. Getting behind the wheel, you couldn’t help the sadness that had overwhelmed you. Maybe he had just gotten caught up at work? Maybe he had forgotten and was waiting for you at home?
When you had pulled into the driveway and saw that his car was not there, your heart couldn’t help but drop. Something had felt wrong. No matter how bad things had gotten, he had always called you. He had always made sure to let you know that he was okay. After a moment, you turned off your car and made your way into the house. The first thing you did was check the answering machine to see if maybe he had called.
Nothing….
You walked over to the large bay window in your living room. Rain had begun to fall in steady streams, leaving streaks upon the glass. The rain mirrored the sadness you were currently feeling.
Suddenly the phone began to ring, snapping you from your thought. Eagerly you got to your feet and crossed the living room with ease. Picking up the phone, you couldn’t help the excitement that had leaked forth from your voice.
“Hello?”
“(Name)?” Came Tohru’s broken voice. You couldn’t help as the panic set in and your worry and anxiety grew. “(Name) you need to come quick, I-it’s Kyo…”
The drive to the hospital was agonizing. The shear panic in Tohru’s voice caused your heart to twist with pain. She wasn’t able to get any thing else out as you quickly hung up the phone and ran out the door, grabbing only your car keys. The car came to a stop at a red light, and you found yourself begun to drift off into deep thought.
It was December, a crisp snow covering the earth below your feet. You and Kyo had been going out for a while now, and you couldn’t be happier. You had been bundled up tight, only your eyes poking out from the scarf you had wrapped tightly around your face. Kyo on the other hand had just been sporting a winter coat.
“Aren’t you freezing?” You laughed, as you clutched tightly to his hand.
“Of, course not, stupid.” He replied, but the small smile on his face told you that he had only been kidding. You pouted slightly, even though you knew he couldn’t see it.
“Oh, you’re so mean!” you exclaimed, lightly punching his arm. He let out a light, bark like laugh.
“Yeah, and you love me.” He said, sticking out his tongue. You huffed.
“You wish!” This caused him to stop. You stopped along side him and peaked over at him. His face had turned somber all of a sudden. You couldn’t help the slight panic that had filled you. “What is it? Are you alright?”
Kyo just blinked a few times, as if being pulled from some deep thought. “(Name), come with me.” His voice was low and soft. You just nodded your head slightly as he pulled you off in some random direction.
It wasn’t until you were totally lost within a see of trees that he let go of your hand. Your arm dropped to your side as you stood in silence. Kyo turned towards you, his eyes betraying no emotions. After what seemed like a long time, but in reality had only been a few seconds, Kyo unwrapped your scarf from around your face, your (color) eyes shinning brightly.
“(Name), I love you, more than everything in this world and the next. I can never imagine my life without you. You have been by my side through everything, even when I didn’t want you there. And I want you to stay by my side forever. I want you to stay through the good, the bad, and the ugly. I want us to grow old together” with that said, he kneeled to one knee; taking your hand in his, he pulled a small velveteen box from his pocket. . “I want us to be together forever and always. Will you marry me (name)?”
You smiled your eyes soft and shimmering with happiness. “Of course I will my silly kitty cat.”
BEEP BEEP BEEEEEP
You snapped from your memories and noticed the light had changed to green, the car behind blaring there horn.
You didn’t even bother to properly park your car. Instead you pulled straight up to the door, tossing the keys to the valet as you ran through the doors. You had been soaked to the core, small droplets falling from your (Length/Color) hair. The dress you had worn clung to your body and your shoes squeaked slightly as you made your way through the halls. The nurse had met you at the doors and quickly led you through the halls to the emergency department. You couldn’t quite comprehend the words that had came from her mouth, but two; that there had been a sever accident and that he had internal bleeding.
When you walked into the room, Kyo’s family had already been there, but none of them mattered at the moment. You tried your best to keep a straight face. But inside, your heat had been screaming in agony. Looks of shock and sadness had been displayed upon there faces. Some tried to speak to you, but all you could do was make your way to his bed, kneeling at his bedside.
Taking his hand in your own, you couldn’t help but squeeze tightly. He had looked so broken; his face was pale and his eyes had been closed. You took in a shaky breath, and released it slowly. You rested your head upon his hand that had been clasped tightly within your own.
“You can’t go.” You spoke brokenly. Your words had been selfish, you knew that. But you couldn’t just let him go. You had fought so hard, waited so long. “We’re going to have two kids, remember? A boy and a girl? And what about our house? The old brick one on the hillside? With the white picked fence? The dog in the yard, and the long summer vacations to Tokyo. You’ve always wanted to see Tokyo…” your voice broke slightly. It wasn’t until your hand had been squeezed lightly did you look up. (Color) eyes met orange, and within that moment, you began to cry, harder than you had ever cried in your whole life. Burring your head within the side of the bed.
Kyo groaned slightly as he brought your hand up, pulling you up without much effort. Your body collapsed to the bed, and within an instance, Kyo’s arms had been embracing you, you wrapped your arms around his neck and just cried, burring your face into the crook of his neck.
“I’m sorry (Name). I am so sorry my love. Please forgive me.” He whispered softly, his fingers entangling within your wet locks.
At this moment, it didn’t even matter that you had been soaking wet, or how your body trembles from fear, sadness, and the cold.
“You look so beautiful. I love you so much.” He placed small kisses upon your temples and down your cheeks. “You would have made a beautiful bride.”
You snorted softly, your tears slowing in pace. Just then a thought struck you. You sat up, a small smile crossing your lips. “Well, why wait then?”
You had called in the nurse, and requested that the hospital chaplain be brought up to the room. She looks at you oddly, but nodded her head softly. Kyo watches from his bed as you stood, turning your eyes towards Yuki and Tohru.
“Would you please mind borrowing me your wedding rings?” your eyes held such desperation. Yuki held tightly to Tohru’s hand, his eyes sad as he nodded and slipped off his wedding ring. Although tears had been falling from her eyes, Tohru did the same. As she approached you, she took your hands within hers, setting the two silver bands within your palm.
“(Name), I am so sorry.” She managed to whisper out. You just nodded your head, trying your best to keep a smile on your face. It wasn’t long after that the chaplain entered the room. The nurse must have explained to him the situation, because the look of sympathy that had been on his face was killing you.
You turned to Tohru, your eyes shimmering slightly. Of course she hadn’t been your most favorite person in the world, but she had meant something to Kyo. “Would you please be my maid of honor?”
“O-of course!” Her voice was laced with shock. And although she cried, she smiled. Kyo sat up with a grunt and pushed himself to a sitting position on the bed. His eyes met with Yuki’s for only a moment, both boys nodding in agreement. Making your way to the bed, you sat softly. You took his hands ever so softly within yours.
“Chaplain, if you wouldn’t mind, we would like to get married today.” Kyo said, his eyes never leaving your face. The chaplain smiles softly, nodding his head.
The ceremony was short and sweet, and the people around you laughed and cheered as you placed the rings on each others fingers; sharing your last kisses. You leaned down whispering ever so softly;
“ Kyo, I want you forever; forever and always. For better or worse. Through the good, the bad, and the ugly. W-We’ll grow old together. Just you and I. Whether happy or sad, or whatever. We’ll still love each other, forever and always…” your voice broke and your eyes drifted close.
Kyo laughed slightly, the feeling of his warm and ragged breath crossing your neck. You could vaguely hear the waning beeping of the heart monitor, and the sounds of his heart coming to a slow stop. His fingers entangle themselves within your (color) hair, and soft droplets were felt on your shoulder. Taking in a raspy breath, Kyo spoke; his voice light and only to be heard by you.
“I love you. Please never forget that; even if I am not here, I will love you forever and always…”
Your eyes widened as his hand fell from your head, landing on the bed with a soft thud.
“K-kyo?” you sat up, your horror growing with ever passing second. Tears came to your eyes and fell like rivers. “Kyo, please? Not yet….” you begged, getting louder with every second. The others stood in remorseful silence as you began to sob.
As the last beep faded, and you knew that Kyo was gone. Everything you held dear and cherished had just been ripped from your grasp. But you couldn’t help feeling like some part of him had still been with you. Tears fell like pools from your eyes as you looked up, (color) eyes meeting with the soft silver of Yuki’s.
“I-I never got to tell him,” Your voice cracked. “I never got to tell him that I am pregnant. I only found out today…I wanted to tell him at dinner.”
Everyone stared on with wide horror struck eyes. A moment that should have been happy and joyous occasion and just turned into the saddest day of your whole life.
